It is a sad fact that most of us work to pay the bills rather than work to do something we love. Imagine waking up in the morning and working at a job that you love so much, it does in fact not feel like work.
Reality also strikes currently when companies are wanting more and more from their employees. Mobile phones make it easier to reach employees on days off or holidays, when they would previously be unreachable.
Considering the above factors, it is important that we learn to strike a balance between work and social life. Too much work and not enough pursuits of the things that make us happy, can evolve into stress related diseases as well as addictions to caffeine, alcohol, or drugs.
Three Methods to Balance your Work and Social life
1 – Be flexible. Most jobs now force us into a weekly routine that after a while becomes boring. Be open to any opportunities that allow you to change your routine. Go to the gym at different times; meet up with friends on a different day each week. What will this exercise achieve? It will help you to look forward to a balanced life rather than dedicating all your energy to the task that takes up most of your time
2 – Realize when dedication becomes an obligation. Sometimes we are so focused on making ourselves the best we can be, that sometimes we complete tasks, which are not needed. Be realistic with deadlines, instead of working all the hours to get reports or projects in early.
3 – Assess your true potential. If you do not like your work, change it. You might say oh but that is easier said than done. It is not hard though. It is just about taking a chance to change our lifestyle into the way we want it to be. If you are working 50 hour weeks and want to work 40, speak to your boss, then cut back on your spending habits to make up for the fall in income.
Remember that materialistic gains do not make us happy permanently. The thrills only lasts a while.
